Eid-El-Fitr: Police Pledge Adequate Security In FCT

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has pledged to provide adequate security to ensure hitch free Eid-el-Fitr Sallah celebration in the territory.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Command, Mr Bala Ciroma, told newsmen on Friday in Abuja that adequate arrangement had been made to fortify all areas that would attract large gathering.

He said the areas included praying grounds, churches, shopping malls, gardens, recreational parks as well as motor parks.

He said that the command had continued to be innovative and proactive in its approach to crime fighting by continuously reviewing its policing strategy to meet up with emerging security concerns.

“As part of efforts to enhance performance and strengthen the already existing cordial relationship between the police and FCT residents, the command has developed a policing plan for the territory.

“The plan was developed after a wide consultation with community leaders, stakeholders and sister security agencies.

“The plan was designed to address five identified crimes of concern, drug abuse, theft/house breaking, one chance robbery, armed robbery, car theft and cultism,” he said.

He said that with the identification of the crimes as the top most in the minds of FCT residents, the command would develop crime fighting measures to address the menace.

Ciroma said that the command had commenced the distribution of the document to the public across the six Area Councils.

He said the distribution of the document was to cultivate public support that would help the police to effectively fight crimes in the territory.
