EndSARS: Protesters Cause Stampede In Enugu

The anti-police brutalities protesters today in Enugu embarked on blockade of selected highways and burning of tyres in the process, causing residents to panic.

The protesters, in their hundreds, also forced commercial drivers to shun areas considered to be high-risk zones. At Trans-Ekulu, by the bridge, they virtually blocked the highway, allowing motorists to pass through narrow channels.

Schools, offices and shops were forced to shut down around noon, with motorists and students bearing tree branches to show solidarity to the movement.

At Abakpa, shops began to shut as early as 12noon when they got the hint that the protesters were on their way. However, the protesters did not loot shops, rather they burnt tyres and blocked some roads, causing gridlocks in the process.

The state police headquarters, however, was calm, although motorists were not allowed to drive near it.

The ever-busy Chris Chemist roundabout is currently deserted.
