He said, “I commend the peaceful nature with which the youths have conducted themselves during the protest to express desire to end police brutalities and call for a better country for all. I also sympathise with families of the casualties of the protest. I plead with them to sheathe their swords and desist from setting fire on buildings, installations and all forms of destruction on private and public property as we have witnessed in the state, thereby destroying our peaceful Enugu and putting the lives other citizens at risk. Be assured that Enugu State Fire Service totally understands the pains, but we should remember that we have the responsibility to protect lives and property in our beloved state. We need support to enable us to carry out our duties in this trying time”

THE WHISTLER reported the burning of a commercial bank at Garki, as well as some vehicles and parts of the headquarters of Enugu North Local Government Area by the protesters on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), today, announced the disruption of the activities of its technical and maintenance teams as a result of the #EndSARS protest which it said had made its operations unsafe. EEDC’s head of corporate communications, Mr Emeka Eze, stated this in a release made available to THE WHISTLER in Enugu.

Eze said, “In view of this, several reported faults affecting supply to our esteemed customers are yet to be attended to, as lives of our personnel are under threat, and as a result their safety is not guaranteed. We are, however, aware and concerned of the untold inconveniences this situation has caused our customers who are currently out of supply, especially as most people are staying safe at home due to the imposed curfew.”
