Enugu LG Polls: IPAC Calls For Level Playing Field

The elections are scheduled for February 29 this year.

Ike, a lawyer and the state chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement, expressed hope that the election would be peaceful and credible, stressing that the state had been peaceful under Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

He also described the Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, Mike Ajogwu (SAN), as a man of integrity, adding that IPAC expects him to conduct a credible election.

He however advised political parties who may have issues during the election to seek redress in the court.

“I don’t envisage a deviation from the norms, but a situation where a party feels strongly that it is short-changed, such a party should feel free to approach the court.

“ It is not on my table as IPAC chairman to tell party A or party B to do this or not. In IPAC, we don’t promote the ideology of individual political parties, rather we promote the group idea, which is that anything that will affect one party or the other is brought to the notice of either the Independent National Electoral Commission or ENSIEC before the election proper to ensure that all challenges are nipped in the bud to enthrone free and fair elections.”

He advised the electorate to exercise their franchise as well as the security agencies to perform their duties optimally.
