FG Gives South Sudan $300,000 For Food, Drugs

The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of 300,000 dollars to South Sudan for the provision of food items and drugs to their cantonment sites.

This was stated on Wednesday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama , via a tweet at @GeoffreyOnyeama.

According to the minister, he was in the Republic of South Sudan to reaffirm the support of Nigeria towards the implementation of the Revitalised Peace Agreement.

The agreement, among other things, outlines the process for giving humanitarian assistance to South Sudan.

“Met with H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit. Extended Nigeria’s support for the establishment of the cantonment sites which is one of the pillars in the implementation of the Peace Agreement for the resolution of the conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.

“Also informed about the sum of $300,000 support approved by President @MBuhari for food items and medicines to the cantonment sites,” the tweet reads.

THE WHISTLERS reports that after the violence that erupted as a result of a power crisis in 2013, the nation in the southern part of Africa became a conflict zone, leading to the death of thousands of people.
