FRSC Arrests 4,907 Traffic Offenders During Festive Season In FCT

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has disclosed that a total of 4,907 people were apprehended for 6,339 traffic offenses in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the just-concluded “Operation Zero Tolerance”.

The operation occurred during the yuletide season between December 15, 2023, and January 15, 2024.

The FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Mr Muta’a Chorrie, revealed this to newsmen on Tuesday in Abuja.

He noted that non-use of seat belts, phone usage while driving, and over-speeding as major contributors to accidents during the operation.

He emphasized that the experience during the 2023 end-of-the-year special patrol operations propelled the Corps to commence another.

Chorrie also revealed plans for a follow-up initiative named “Operation Falcon Speed Mobile Control” in 2024.

According to him, the operation will address various factors contributing to road accidents, emphasizing the need for responsible driving behaviour.

“The special Operation is tagged ‘Operation Falcon Speed Mobile Control’. This will help check all the things that cause road accidents and curb to the barest minimum, “he said.

He stated that the FRSC has equipped its personnel with raider guns and other operational logistics to boost efficiency. He added that the FRSC will embark on intensive sensitization campaigns in churches, mosques, and schools across the six area councils of the FCT.

Chorrie expressed optimism that this educational outreach would instill a responsible driving culture and enhance traffic management.

“This will also help to inculcate driving culture and educate road users on effective traffic management in the FCT.

“The Corps would be visiting churches on Sundays and Mosques on Fridays as well as various public and private schools, “he said.

The sector commander appealed to motorists, especially commercial drivers, to comply with traffic rules, emphasizing that cooperation with FRSC initiatives is crucial in reducing accidents, fatalities, and preserving lives and property in the territory.
