Funke Akindele Is Not Our Ambassador- NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has denied rumours that actress Funke Akindele was its brand ambassador in the fight against the COVID-19.

Akindele had a crowded party at her residence and posted video clip on Instagram, contrary to the social distancing advised by NCDC.

Fans were outraged on social media by the actress’ action, and questioned why an NCDC ambassador would violate medical advice from the agency.
But the agency has denied Akindele was it’s ambassador.
It said, “as an agency of the Federal Government of Nigeria, NCDC has not engaged brand ambassadors as part of our response to #COVID19.

“We continue to emphasise that all Nigerians maintain social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID19.”

Similarly, Dettol which featured the actress in an advert affirmed the claims of the NCDC, saying that “the NCDC partnered with Dettol on a public service message to educate our communities about preventive measures against COVID-19. Funke is not a brand ambassador of the NCDC.

“As a responsible organization and brand, Dettol does not condone any breach of the guidelines on Covid-19. As an organization we are concerned at the turn of events,” it added.
