Gunmen Shoot Year-One Student At Ignatius Ajuru University

A fresh wave of concern has gripped the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rivers State, following the reported shooting of a male first-year student at the institution’s Faculty of Education.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, reportedly left the student injured and in need of urgent medical attention, with his colleagues said to be scrambling to raise money for surgery.

A source close to the victim said that the student was receiving treatment at a hospital after sustaining gunshot injuries.

According to the source, the victim’s girlfriend, who was said to be with him at the hospital, disclosed that the medical facility had demanded about ₦300,000 before the required surgery could commence.

The source said the victim’s course mates had begun contributing money to meet the medical expenses and ensure that he receives urgent treatment.

However, the incident has heightened concerns over security at the university, particularly against the backdrop of previous reports of violent clashes involving suspected rival cult groups on the institution’s campuses.
