Confusion has surrounded the condition of Katsina United defender Ozor Chinedu after the 18-year-old reportedly collapsed during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes in Katsina.
Chinedu, who recently joined Katsina United from Kano Pillars, reportedly collapsed during the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Cup match at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Tuesday.
He was rushed to K-Dara Specialist Hospital, where doctors reportedly pronounced him dead. Katsina United subsequently issued a condolence message, while clubs including Heartland FC and Kano Pillars paid tributes to the young player.
However, the situation reportedly took an unexpected turn when staff at the mortuary of Katsina General Hospital noticed signs of movement and alerted medical personnel.
Chinedu was subsequently transferred to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, where he was placed on oxygen support.
Katsina United media officer, Nasir Gide, confirmed the development, saying the player had reportedly been declared dead twice before signs of life were detected.
