Man Arrested For Attempt To ‘Rape’ Osun Teacher

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 50 years old man, Taiwo Aina, for alleged attempt to rape a female teacher who is his neighbour.

Aina, 50, was on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo on two counts of attempted rape and assault.

The prosecutor, Mr Abiodun Fagboyinbo, said the defendant committed the offence on June 27, 2020 at about 10:55am at Agunbelewo area of Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

The Police prosecutor, Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused person attempted to rape the woman and also punched her mouth in the process.

The prosecutor  said, “Taiwo attempted to commit rape and unlawfully assaulted Mark Kehinde F’ by giving her blow on her mouth to the extent she sustained an injury on her mouth and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 359 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. II Laws of Osun State, Nigeria 2002.”

Aina pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The complainant told the magistrate, Mr Opeyemi Badmus, that she was “a school teacher and a neighbour of the accused person.”

The counsel for the defendant, Mr Nagite Okobe, applied for bail for his client on liberal terms.

The magistrate admitted the accused person to bail with the sum of N500,000 with one surety who must be a civil servant on Grade  Level 07 in the state.

He adjourned the case to 9th of July 9th, 2020 for hearing.
