Nigeria Plunges Into Blackout As Power Grid Collapses

Some parts of the country have been plunged into total blackout as the National power grid collapsed again.

The Kaduna Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company, announced the national grid collapse on Sunday.

The Eko Distribution Company in a text message sent to its customers, said, “Dear customer, there is a system collapse on the national grid. Supply will be restored as soon as the issue is resolved. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

While the the Kaduna Electric, via its Twitter handle said, “We regret to inform you that the loss of power supply in our franchise – Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states is as a result of the collapse of the national grid. The collapse occurred at about 11:26 am this Morning.

“Supply shall be restored as soon as the grid is back up. We regret all inconveniences.”

Over the years and due to lack of spinning reserve, the grid has recorded several system collapse.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria had said that subsequent collapse of the National Grid cannot be totally avoided in the country.

The company explained that as National Grid is still being operated with zero spinning reserve, system instability like the partial system disturbance might not be avoidable.
