Obosi Raid: Police Arrest Two, Recover Drugs Worth N6.2m

Police in Anambra State have arrested two suspected drug dealers and recovered illicit drugs valued at about N6.2m, along with N598,400 in cash.

The suspects, identified as 47-year-old Nzube Onyedikachukwu, also known as Onyeoma, and 20-year-old Ugochukwu Azia, were arrested during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, carried out the operation in the early hours of Tuesday, August 11, 2026, following intelligence on the activities of suspected drug dealers in the area.

Police said the operatives recovered substances suspected to be Cannabis sativa, methamphetamine and other illicit drugs during the raid.

The recovered drugs were valued at about N6.2m. Officers also recovered N598,400 in cash.

According to the command, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were allegedly involved in the distribution of illicit drugs. The hideout was also said to serve as a meeting point for suspected criminals.

Some suspects reportedly fled after sighting the police.

The two suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue to trace the source of the drugs and identify other members of the alleged distribution network.

The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, said “the command would continue to raid criminal hideouts and carry out intelligence-led operations across the state”.

He also urged residents and community leaders to provide useful information that would help the police identify criminal activities and suspected hideouts.
