Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo will on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, launch the pilot phase of the Federal Government’s Solar programme in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Solar Home Systems is an initiative by the government to support the deployment of 20,000 small-scale household solar systems to rural communities in Nigeria, in other to address the immediate power requirements of the people.
The system is designed for poor rural households that are completely unconnected to the nation’s power grid.
The devices have the ability to power four light bulbs, a radio, a torchlight and comes with a USB port for charging mobile phones.

Recall that the Federal Government, last week, disclosed that it would be launching the Solar Home Systems Programme (SHSP), following the deteriorating state of the nation’s power sector.
Statistics by the Nigerian Association of Energy Economists, NAEE, in 2015, showed that 75 percent of the Nigerian population still live without access to regular electricity supply.
