Oyo LG Holds Fresh Poll As State Still Await Results Of Saturday Election

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission is conducting a fresh election to elect chairman and councillors into the Ido Local Government Council today.

Local government elections were held in all the 33 councils in the state on Saturday but the logo of the Zenith Labour Party which had candidates in the poll was ommited on the ballot papers for Ido Local Government Area.

The Chairman of OYSIEC, Isiaka Olagunju ( SAN) who regretted the ommission announced that the fresh poll would be conducted today.

He said the printer had assured the commissioner that new ballots would be ready for the poll.

Although the fresh election is underway, it is greeted with apathy.

Also, the tension in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area is said to be increasing on Sunday as security operatives are reportedly positioned everywhere in the town.

Angry youths are also said to be standing around the town awaiting the announcement of the poll result.

Although the election which was held on Saturday was peaceful in many areas, it was marred by violence in Ibarapa East and by ballot snatching in Ogbomoso North

The results of the elections are being awaited by parties today.
