PDP Bigwigs Visit Jonathan Amid Report APC ‘Pressuring’ Ex-President To Join Party

Some big shots of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have visited former President Goodluck Jonathan at his residence on Tuesday.

Former senate president and chairman of PDP’s national reconciliation and strategy committee, Bukola Saraki, led the party’s chieftains to Jonathan’s residence.

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, and former governors Liyel Imoke of Cross River, Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe and Ibrahim Shema of Katsina, were among members of the committee seen in a video of the visit shared on Facebook by Saraki.

Saraki told journalists after the meeting that Jonathan, “reassured members of the PDP committee of his strong commitment to the party — stating that he is ready to offer his time, experience and resources to strengthen the party.”

The PDP committee’s visit came a day after a popular news website reported that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was allegedly pressuring Jonathan to join its party.

The report, quoting sources in the APC, claimed that the ruling party was planning to field the former president and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, to fly the party’s ticket in the 2023 presidential election.

The visit also came about three months after some APC governors held a private meeting with Jonathan in Abuja.

The APC caretaker chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, led the party’s governors to Jonathan’s Abuja residence in November.
