To reward the tricyclist, Obi announced at the ongoing LEADERSHIP awards and Conference in Abuja on Tuesday that Salisu N15 million has been awarded a scholarship to Baze University.

The former governor of Anambra State was flanked by the Proprietor of the university and his running mate, Baba-Ahmed during the announcement.

He said Salisu’s feeding, schooling, and other needs to make his period of study conducive would be handled by the university.

Speaking after receiving the award as Politician Of The Year, awarded by LEADERSHIP, Obi said, “The North has no reason to be poor in Nigeria. We make more money from agriculture than oil.

“Imagine Ukraine is giving Nigeria grain, a country that is at war. We have land and everything more than them. But they are giving us grain because 60 per cent of their land is cultivated and 60 per cent of our own is uncultivated.

“The two biggest states in the North East: Borno and Taraba have 70,000 and 55,000 square kilometres which is four times the size of Belgium but Belgium is exporting what we don’t even export a quarter of”

He added, “For me, this award, I am grateful to the almighty God. If I have the opportunity, I will give my all to the country.

“I am not desperate to be president, I am desperate to make Nigeria work,” Obi stated while adding that young Nigerians should be productively engaged in order to eliminate poverty and crime.

“We have no reasons to be poor. Poverty should never be part of our lives, especially in the North,” Obi said.

“There is so much we can do in the country if we have the right leadership. The more you remove people out of poverty, the less criminals you have,” Obi said.
