Plane Conveying 190 Passengers Crash-Lands In India

A passenger plane conveying about 190 persons crash landed in southern part of India, killing about 16 persons and injuring over 100.

This was confirmed by the nation’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, in a tweet on Friday.

“Pained by the plane accident in Kozhikode; my thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones.

“May the injured recover at the earliest.

“Spoke to Kerala CM @vijayanpinarayi Ji regarding the situation,” he tweeted.

Modi noted that authorities were providing assistance.

Aljazeera reports that the Air India Express flight from Dubai was repatriating Indians stranded overseas amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Civil Aviation Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri, said about 190 passengers were on the flight aside crew members.

“Unfortunately, 16 people have lost their lives; I offer my condolences to their next of kin and pray for speedy recovery of the injured,” he said.

Aljazeera reports that the passenger jet skidded off the runway after landing in heavy rain in the southern state of Kerala.
