You’re Not Supposed To Die, Wife Of Nigeria Based Lebanese Cries After Husband Dies In Beirut Blast

A Nigeria based Lebanese who traveled two days before the Beirut blast has been confirmed dead during the explosion which killed 150 people.

Jihad Saade, 44 had travelled to Beirut after his 6- year- old daughter, Gemma, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma.

His wife, Soha Saade, told AP that they had spent 13 days with their sick daughter, with few more days left before he arrived.

Soha said at first when the smoke began on Tuesday, they both lamented on Beirut pollution disorder and she began to film it with her phone from the hospital.

She said they both went out to check the csuse of the pollution and suddenly, the explosion hit them.

According to her, she had to decide to either focus on her daughter who was watching blood gush from her father’s head, or leave the girl with others to save her husband.

Soha said she carried her husband down the 9th floor , walking barefoot on broken glasses.

She said her brother and other strangers arrived to help, while she reached out to her friend who put her through basic first aid.

According to her, other hospitals who were overwhelmed turned the couple away.

The Nigeria based Labanese later died in her arms, she said.

“You are not supposed to die in a hospital. This is what is killing me,” she said crying.

Jihad grew up in Nigeria where he was known for his generosity, she said.

The couple had been married since 2009, while he spent most time in Nigeria.

She said, “His biggest concern was his family. He was carrying a big load. Everyone was counting on him,” adding that “he used to give me peace of mind.”
