Senators Shower Praises On Bawa As EFCC Chair Nominee Denies Selling Seized Assets

The screening of the Chairman-nominee of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was with minor hitches as most Senators took time to express confidence in the ability of the nominee, Abdulrasheed Bawa, to reposition the commission.

The lawmakers interrogated the nominee on several issues concerning the operations of the commission, especially vexed issues of scandals associated with former heads of the commission who left office with an air of controversy hanging over their heads.

The Senators also grilled him on the controversial sale of forfeited assets in the EFCC custody in Port Harcourt.

The nominee was also questioned on whether he was duly qualified for the position, even as he was interrogated on how he could avoid being manipulated by persons of interest.

In his response on the sale of forfeited public properties in the commission’s custody in Port Harcourt, the yet-to-be-confirmed EFCC Chair cleared the air, stating that the chief executive of the commission does not have the powers to sell properties in the commission’s custody.

According to him, the sale of such properties can only be done by the commission’s secretary
