Tension Between Ife, Modakeke Following Killing Of Mother, Child By Youths

Tension appears brewing between Ile Ife and Modakeke in Osun State, following the discovery of corpses of a mother and her child in the Alapata area of Modakeke

There were speculations that the duo was killed by some Ile Ife youths but this could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.

The incident, THE WHISTLER gathered, sparked unease in the two communities which had engaged in fierce wars in the past.

Some Ife residents told journalists on Tuesday that there was tension in the ancient town also because they heard that Modakeke people might want to react angrily to the incident.

The spokesman for Modakeke Progressive Union, Ven. Debo Babalola, when contacted told journalists that they heard about the incident.

He, however, said he could not give details about the killings because he was yet to know exactly what happened.

The Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, also said she did not have details of the incident.

She said, “We don’t have details of the incident yet. We are working around the matter.”

She said the police were working to unravel who was behind the incident and also working to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The two communities had in the past fought over encroachment on land during the reign of the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

However, the present Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has been making moves to ensure that the feud between the town towns is laid to rest permanently.
