Armed attackers on Monday reportedly killed eight military personnel, including a lieutenant, during an operation in Kaduna State.
According to counter-insurgency publication Zagazola Makama, the soldiers were travelling to conduct a rescue mission following an earlier attack and abduction in communities along the Kaduna River, situated between Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas, when they came under attack.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and the Nigerian Army has yet to issue an official statement. Efforts by TheCable to obtain comments from military authorities were ongoing as of press time.
The attack comes amid a resurgence of bandit activities across parts of north-west and north-central Nigeria, despite sustained military operations aimed at curbing insecurity in the regions.
In March 2025, several soldiers lost their lives during coordinated attacks by bandits on military bases in Kaduna and Niger states.

The Nigerian Army described the incident as a “three-pronged attack” on the affected formations.
