2023: Is Atiku Preparing For 7th Presidential Attempt?

If he decides to run for president in 2023, the next general election would mark Atiku Abubakar’s 7th attempt to occupy the office of president of Nigeria.

Atiku has unsuccessfully contested for president six times since 1993. But the Turaki Adamawa has refused to give up his ambition, many say.

His regular intervention on national issues, which have aligned with popular views, have also been cited as indication of an undying ambition to become number one citizen of the country.

The former vice president ran against President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he came second.

The former vice president has continued to make conscious efforts to remain afloat politically, and has remained vocal about the governing of the nation all the while.

Atiku’s recent remarks and photos of meetings have left many wondering if he was still disposed to contesting for president.

On October 8, he met with a reconciliation committee of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, where he shared his vision of “rejuvenating” the PDP with the party’s leadership.

The former vice president, in the last two days, has met with former senator Dino Melaye and a former deputy national publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timi Frank.

THE WHISTLER also reported earlier that Atiku, who hails from Adamawa in the North East, had reacted to rumours that some South East PDP leaders were planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) if the PDP would not zone its 2023 presidential ticket to the South East.

He had said, “All geopolitical zones deserve a political party that believes in Nigeria and not a party that believes otherwise,” adding that the PDP, “has much to offer all parts of Nigeria, and I urge all Nigerians in all zones to keep faith with a party that has kept faith with Nigeria and will be equitable to all.”

Although Atiku has yet to declare his intention, some twitter users who reacted to his meetings with Dino and Frank seem to think that 2023 politicking and Atiku’s presidential ambition are on the cards. Below are some of the reactions:
