2023: You’re Welcome To APC But Not To Contest Presidency, Group Warns Jonathan

Although former president Goodluck Jonathan is ‘highly’ welcome to the All Progressives Congress, he should not venture into contesting the 2023 presidential election, says the Southeast APC Presidency Project 2023.

The group, in a release made available to THE WHISTLER in Umuahia, Sunday, which was signed by its national coordinator, Dr Chinedu Jideofo-Ogbuagu, was reacting to insinuations making the rounds that the former president was being wooed by the hierarchy of the APC to be the party’s standard-bearer come 2023 presidential election.

According to the statement, “That APC governors just visited Dr Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan on his 63rd birthday has fuelled speculations of his imminent defection to our party, All Progressives Congress (APC). Of course, Dr Jonathan is most welcome to jump the sinking PDP ship and join the roaring APC train; but not to contest for 2023 Presidency.

“People who love him must advise him not to entertain any divisive and dangerous thought of contesting for the president of Nigeria in 2023. The year 2023 is for the Southeast, and no selfish or greedy person from anywhere should play the spoiler on the basis of any self-serving permutations.

“Dr Jonathan should join APC to support the emergence of a president of Nigeria of the Southeast extraction on the APC platform in 2023 as Southeasterners heavily supported him in 2007-2015. It is payback time, and he must not exhibit any treacherous trait against the Southeast – no matter the temptation.”

The insinuations about Mr Jonathan’s movement to the APC had heightened of late, especially after the defection of Engr Dave Umahi, governor of Ebonyi State, to the ruling APC. This followed some visible robust relationship between APC governors, especially those from the north, and the former president. However, THE WHISTLER cannot substantiate the claims.
