2027: Mark Warns ADC Candidates Against Hate Speech, Empty Promises

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has warned the party’s governorship candidates against hate speech, ethnic and religious profiling and making empty promises as they commence preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Mark gave the warning on Monday in Abuja at a consultation meeting with the party’s governorship candidates from across the states.

He urged the candidates to ensure that their campaigns reflected the values and principles of the ADC, stressing that promises made to voters must be realistic and capable of being fulfilled.

According to him, making promises that candidates do not intend to keep could undermine the integrity of both the candidates and the party.

“We are ADC. Our campaign must reflect the kind of country that we would like to build. Avoid hate speech, ethnic or religious profiling. We cannot be associated with violence in whatever form,” Mark said.

He added: “Unlike the ruling party and the President, ADC does not believe that all is fair in politics.”

The ADC chairman also directed the candidates to familiarise themselves with the party’s Governance and Ethical Principles, as contained in its Orange Book, as well as its manifesto.

Mark said adherence to the party’s ethical guidelines would be critical to ensuring that the ADC’s campaign was conducted in line with its vision for the country.

The governorship candidates, in their separate remarks, expressed appreciation to the party for providing them with a platform to contest the 2027 elections.

They also welcomed the decision of the party and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to make the reduction of the cost of living a major plank of the party’s campaign.

The candidates particularly expressed support for the proposed return of fuel subsidy as part of measures to reduce petrol prices and ease the economic burden on Nigerians.

They pledged their loyalty to the ADC and vowed to work towards securing victory in their respective states, promising to make the party proud at the polls.
