2027: NDC Denies Giving La’ah Kaduna Governorship Ticket

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has denied issuing a governorship ticket to former Senator Danjuma La’ah ahead of the 2027 Kaduna State governorship election.

The party’s Deputy National Chairman, North, Sidi Abdul Bomi, said a document circulating on social media purporting to show La’ah as the party’s governorship candidate was fake.

Bomi, who spoke in a telephone interview, said the document did not originate from the NDC and should not be regarded as evidence of La’ah’s nomination.

The denial comes amid a dispute over the party’s governorship ticket in Kaduna, with La’ah and Mohammed Abbas linked to competing claims over the nomination.

Abbas, who has maintained that he is the party’s legitimate candidate, said the NDC leadership had already rejected the purported document.

According to him, the document was also forwarded to the party’s National Secretary, who questioned its authenticity.

Abbas said he obtained the party’s nomination form within the stipulated period, was screened and participated in the governorship primary conducted by the NDC in Kaduna.

He claimed the primary election committee subsequently declared him winner and that the party had uploaded his name as its candidate.

Abbas argued that La’ah could not legitimately obtain the governorship ticket without participating in the required nomination process.

“He wasn’t screened… and he didn’t come for the primaries,” Abbas said, adding that he was not aware of La’ah participating in the process.

The former senator, who represented Kaduna South Senatorial District, has been linked to the governorship contest amid the internal dispute.

Abbas also claimed that he was instrumental in bringing La’ah into the NDC, saying the former lawmaker initially joined the party to pursue the Kaduna South senatorial seat rather than the governorship.

He expressed hope that La’ah would consider returning to the senatorial race, describing him as an experienced politician capable of strengthening the party’s ticket.

Abbas also said he planned to meet with La’ah and other stakeholders in Kaduna as part of efforts to resolve the disagreement and unite the party ahead of the 2027 election.

He said his planned consultations would include party leaders, ward chairmen, elders, women and youth groups.

The NDC’s denial has left the competing claims over the Kaduna governorship ticket unresolved publicly, although Abbas insists that his emergence followed the party’s formal nomination process.

The controversy comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections, with Kaduna expected to be a key battleground in the North.
