Abia PDP Leaders Close Ranks

The Peoples Democratic Party’s stakeholders in Abia State, comprising the party elders, members of the Board of Trustees and its National Executive Council, have resolved to close ranks to move the party forward.

Rising from their meeting against the recent acrimonies amongst the hierarchy of the party in the state, the stakeholders regretted the discord experienced in the party, citing the 43 days’ absence of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in the state to have created the lacuna which resulted in the crises. They however expressed hope that with the governor’s return to the state, after recovery from Covid-19, that normalcy would soon return to the party.

According to a statement jointly signed by senators Theodore Orji, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Adolphus Wabara, Emma Nwaka; Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, HE Rt Hon Acho Nwakanma and Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, which was made available to THE WHISTLER in Umuahia on Sunday, the unfortunate incidents experienced in the part of late did not represent the true situation of the PDP in the state.

It read that, “We therefore call on the antagonists, on all sides, to cease fire immediately. We believe that whatever issues anyone may have can be addressed within the protocols of the party instead of in public debates that project a bad image of our party and governor. We urge all members of our party to wake up to the challenges we face, especially from opposition parties that are trying to revive through the federal support.”

They also called on those in court contending the recently held PDP local government congresses in the state to withdraw their cases, and seek redress within the internal mechanisms of the party.

While commending the efforts of the Abia State government in curtailing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, the stakeholders called on the residents to strictly adhere to the laid-down measures aimed at checkmating the spread of the pandemic.
