Abia: We Pay 100,000 To Herdsmen For Every Cow Killed During Clashes – Gov Ikpeazu

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has said his administration is made to part with N100,00 as compensation to Fulani herdsmen for every cow they lose as a result of a clash with farmers in the state.

Ikpeazu said the same amount is paid to farmers whenever their farmlands are destroyed by herders in the state.

This, the governor said, was the state government’s strategy of ensuring that conflicts between farmers and herdsmen are easily resolved without loss of lives.

Ikpeazu stated this when he appeared on Channels TV’s ‘Sunrise daily’ on Wednesday.

“We pay compensation of N100,000 for any cow that is killed on account of a misunderstanding between the farmers and the herders and pay the same amount for farmlands destroyed by strayed cows,” he said.

The governor further said there was need for the federal and state governments to, “do a proper diagnosis of the problem (herdsmen crisis) and treat it accordingly. We are not diagnosing the problem properly; we are just diverting the attention of serious-minded people in this country.”

Recall that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, had on 31/1/2021 shared a video that showed supposed members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) invading alleged herdsmen’s camp in Isiukwuato LGA, Abia State.

The ESN operatives were seen burning houses and cows allegedly belonging to the Fulani herdsmen. They also allegedly killed some cows.

“Video of men at work last night across all the towns and villages of the old Bende Division, especially Isiukwuato,” Kanu captioned the video shared on his Facebook page.

“ESN has commenced the combing of parts of Isiukwuato forests last night and engagement with the enemy is ongoing and will continue until they no longer present a threat to our communities along that axis…” he added, issuing a direct warning to the herders.
