Again, Gunmen Kill Two In Modakeke

Tragedy struck again in Modakeke,a community in Osun State, as gunmen kill two persons and abducted three others.

The incident, our correspondent gathered, happened at the Alapata village in Modakeke, sparking another round of tension in the area.

It was gathered that the killings in Modakeke happened on Saturday when the victims, who were farmers, were working on the farm and gunmen abducted five of them.

A source in the community told journalists in Osogbo on Sunday that five of the farmers were abducted and one of them, who escaped from the abductors came to the community and reported the incident to leaders.

A rescue team was reportedly raised, and while the rescuers were combing the bush for the criminals and their captives, they were said to have discovered corpses of two of those abducted.

But another person told our correspondent that four persons were abducted and one of them escaped while the corpses of two were found, remaining one of the farmers in the captivity of the gunmen.

The two corpses were said to have been taken to the mortuary of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile Ife.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident to Journalists on Sunday.

The PPRO said, “The Commissioner of Police, Mr Olawale Olokode, has relocated to the area to ensure peace returns there and to arrest the perpetrators.

“Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime.”

A mother and her grown up son who was said to be preparing to travel out of the country were killed in the Alapata area of Modakeke in May this year.

Also, five persons were gruesomely killed in Modakeke just 10 days ago and this sparked tension between residents of Ile Ife and Modakeke.
