Again, Troops Kill ‘Gana’s Men’ In Raid

The Defence Headquarters on Saturday, said Troops of Sector 2, Operation WHIRL STROKE have killed two suspected criminals, said to have links with the late Benue’s most wanted terrorist, Terwase Akwaza, popularly known as “Gana.”

Spokesman of the force, John Enenche disclosed this in a statement.

According to Enenche, the suspects were killed during a raid at a hideout around Kwaghaondo village in Chanchanji council ward of Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State.

He said the raid followed credible intelligence on the possible regrouping of some elements linked to the late Gana.

The defence spokesman said: “Troops of Sector 2 conducted a dawn raid operation at the identified hideout. The gallant troops made contact with the armed militia elements who opened fire and fled as troops closed in on their position. Troops swiftly responded with superior firepower which led to the killing of 2 bandits while one AK 47 rifle, one magazine and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition were recovered. Currentlty troops have continued to dominate the area with aggressive patrols and ambushes to deny bandits freedom of action.”

Furthermore, Enenche disclosed that in a similar development, troops of 117 Guards Battalion, while on joint clearance operation on 25 September, 2020 around Mararaba Udege in Nasarawa State raided a suspected kidnappers’ camp along Bakonu road in Nasarawa Local Government Area.

He noted that in the course of the operation, 3 kidnapped victims were rescued while 2 kidnappers were killed in action.

“Rescued victims have been reunited with their families,” he added.

Recall that Gana, who had been declared wanted for numerous crimes in Benue and Taraba States,  was killed on September 8th on his way to the Government House in Makurdi, the state capital, to receive amnesty offer by the state government.

While the military claimed the dreaded criminal was gunned down in a shootout, Governor Samuel Ortom maintained that Gana was snatched from a government convoy by the troops and subsequently killed.

Also, the military had on September 15th, said two of Gana’s men were killed in a joint dawn raid around Adu general area in Chanchanji council ward of Takum local government area of Taraba.
