‘Agberos’ Create Artificial Gridlocks For Us To Rob — Suspect Tells Police In Lagos

A suspected armed robber in Lagos State, Amos Abayomi, has confessed that he earns a living by dispossessing commuters of their valuables during traffic jams.

Abayomi said motor park boys, commonly known as “agberos”, aid his gang members’ operation by creating artificial traffic on the road.

Abayomi, who had just snatched a Tecno phone from a lady during traffic along Ketu road, was arrested with a machete in his by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command.

He said the ‘agberos’ at Ajelogo Park, in Ketu, help his gang to carry out their attacks effectively, “especially in the morning and night.

His words: “They would use their trucks to block the highway at dawn thereby creating artificial traffic so that they can feast on motorists and commuters held in traffic.

“Abayomi, an Eiye cult member, also confessed that Monday Obayemi, who was equally arrested with assorted hard drug, robs and sells hard drugs in traffic to the suspects and other criminals daily,” the police said.

Operatives of the Lagos Police had arrested Abayomi alongside seven others, suspected to be involved in traffic robbery in Ketu area of the state.

In statement signed by the Spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Monday, said the suspects were arrested by a team of Rapid Response Squad (RRS), headed by CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi on separate occasions.

“…Five of the suspects were arrested on Thursday 11th February 2021, at about 10:30 pm… Three suspects were caught in the act by another RRS patrol team around 6 am on Friday, 12th February 2021,” the statement said.

The suspects are Olawuyi Olayinka, m, 27, Mayowa Adeleke, m, 17, Fa’izu Ado, m, 25, Segun Oluwatoyin, m, 27, Haruna Shuaibu, m, 29, Amos Abayomi, m 24, Monday Obayemi,m, 25 and Okunlola Olawale, m, 21.

The Command, while reaffirming its commitment to reducing crime and criminality in the state, noted that it recovered weapons, assorted charms, mobile phones, wraps of substances suspected to be cocaine and other hard drugs from the suspects.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet Investigation and prosecution, as the command will not leave any stone unturned in getting the state rid of criminals and hoodlums,” the police said.
