In the three minutes video, the 48 years dark-complexioned lady called on women to become more confident in their natural skin colour instead of trying to be someone else.

“I grew up not even thinking about anything changing the colour of my skin, that is who I am, I leant hard work… from my mother. Right from a young age, I have always been told that I could do and become anything.

“In the industry which has done a lot of good for me in the last 27 years,I have never felt the need to do something to my skin to make it in life. To get ahead I have remained consistent through hard work, professionalism and discipline.

“ I believe strongly that you too can reach your peak without altering your skin, no one should tell you that you are not good enough just because of your skin colour. So, my message for you today is ‘reach not bleach’. So many black women who have done well…”

The actress also encouraged women to be themselves, and emulate the current Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi of South Africa, who she described as a “real black woman with natural beauty.”

Tunzi was crowned Miss Universe on December 8, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States
