The Kano State Emirate Council has refuted allegations that emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, spent N6 billion of the emirate’s fund since assuming office in 2014.

Speaking at a press conference in Kano on Monday, a senior official in charge of finance, Bashir Wali, told reporters that contrary to reports, Sanusi has only spent N2.9billion since he emerged Emir three years ago.

Mr. Wali, who is also the Walin Kano, further explained that Emir Sanusi inherited about N1.9 billion as against the alleged N4 billion from his predecessor Alhaji Ado Bayero.

This follows claims by some sections of the state that Sanusi misappropriated money said to have been left behind by his predecessor.

The Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Agency (KSPCACA) also announced plans to investigate the former Central Bank Governor following the allegation.

The letter of summon was signed by the agency’s Director of Operations, Sulaiman Gusau, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), and addressed to Sanusi.

The letter stated that the agency will probe Sanusi’s activities in the emirate since 2014 when he ascended the throne.

Chairman of the agency, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, maintained that the body was acting on a petition from a citizen accusing the emirate council of financial recklessness under the current emir.
