Anambra Warns Herdsmen To Stop Grazing Cattle On School Land

The Anambra State Government has cautioned herdsmen against grazing of cattle on school premises in the state.

Governor Willie Obiano’s Senior Special Assistant on Security, Ostar Christopher, issued the caution while addressing newsmen in Awka on Saturday.

Christopher said the warning became necessary as herdsmen had started violating the state government’s policy banning grazing on school premises.

He said the state government had also received reports of clashes between herdsmen and farmers in the state.

“This action raised lots of clashes between farmers and herdsmen because farm crops were destroyed or lives lost at times, the state took a decision to ban the practice to achieve peace,” he said.

The state government warned that further violation of the ban on grazing on school environments would attract serious sanctions.

Christopher noted that the Cattle Menace Control Committee set up by the state government reached an agreement with herders in the state to stop grazing in academic environment.

“We held series of meetings with the cattle rearers in the state to respect the decisions of the government to entrench lasting peaceful co-existence among the people.

“We have been able to make herdsmen who have been grazing in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University to move out of the premises peacefully,” he said.
