BREAKING: Abia Governor Recovers From COVID-19

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, has finally recovered from Coronavirus (COVID-19) after about three weeks of contracting the virus. 

Ikpeazu was certified negative for COVID-19 after multiple tests carried out on him by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) returned negative on Friday. 

The Abia State Commissioner for Health, John Okiyi Kalu, confirmed the development in a statement sent to THE WHISTLER on Saturday. 

“To the glory of God, repeat COVID-19 test conducted by Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on samples submitted by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on Thursday, 2nd July, 2020, returned negative result on Friday, 3rd July, 2020.

“Governor Ikpeazu is therefore deemed free of the virus according to the extant guidelines of NCDC and the World Health Organization (WHO),” said Kalu. 

The Abia State Government had announced on June 8 that Governor Ikpeazu had tested positive for COVID-19. 

The governor had been transferred to Abuja where he was managed back to health by a team of medical practitioners.
