“There is no cause for alarm. It is part of the president’s annual vacation and he will use the opportunity to see his doctors, rest and returned refreshed ahead of the 2019 polls,” a source told this newspaper.

Last Friday, there were indications that Buhari’s fragile health may have taken a hit as he had to sit on a chair at the Jumaat prayers at the National Mosque, Abuja.

If the president leaves on the envisaged date, it will be coming exactly 11 months after he travelled out of the country on May 7, 2017 for medical vacation.

During that trip, the president ended up spending over 103 days, a situation that that informed dozens of protests to demand he either returns or resigns.

The peaceful march was organised by a coalition of civil society groups under the supervision of security agents.

Buhari’s combined absence from the country in 2017 based on medical reasons was over 148 days having spent over 52 days between January and February of that year.
