Buhari Sweet-Talks Youths, ‘You’re Nigeria’s Most Important Resource’

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigerian youths are “undoubtedly” the most important resource of the country.

He made the statement shortly after signing the much anticipated “Not Too Young To Run Bill” on Thursday in Abuja.

Speaking in the presence of young persons from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, the president said the country’s oil, agriculture and solid minerals are nothing compared to the youths.

“You are undoubtedly Nigeria’s most important resource – not oil, not agriculture, not solid minerals – but you and all of us,” he said.

Recall that Buhari, while speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in Westminster on April 18, 2018, said that a lot of Nigerian youths wait on handouts from the government.

“More than 60 percent of the population is below 30, a lot of them haven’t been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil producing country, therefore, they should sit and do nothing, and get housing, healthcare, education free,” he said.

However, in an apparent sweet- mouth attempt, Buhari, addressing the youths, said, “Your energy, intelligence and talent are what will drive and develop Nigeria, long after we are all gone.”
