Buhari Wants Traditional Rulers To Assist In Fight Against Insecurity

President Muhammadu Buhari has called on traditional rulers to use their influence in securing their communities, and to a large extent, the nation.

The president, who was represented by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), made the disclosure at the palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, on Saturday.

He “expressed appreciation and called for more support of the traditional institutions in the fight against insecurity in the country,” according to a statement by the AGF’s Special Assistant on Media an Public Relations, Dr. Umar Jibrilu Gwandu.

The AGF noted, on behalf of the President, that the role of traditional institutions in societal stability and security cannot be overemphasized

He added that government was doing its part in addressing the security situation of the country.

“Mr President has directed us to express gratitude to you for all the support you have overtime been extending to his government specifically on security matters and other associated social ills that have been bedevilling this country of ours,” Malami said.

Abubakar Malami (SAN) who also led a presidential delegation to the wedding fatiha of the children of the families of Ambassador Shehu Malami and Late Alhaji Musa Abubakar, conveyed “the felicitations of the President to the Sultan on the wedding.”

Among the delegates were the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi and the Inspector General of Police, Muhammad Adamu.

On his part, the Sultan assured of the cooperation of traditional and religious institutions, stressing that “we will continue to do our best to see that peace, stability and development reign in Nigeria,” the statement partly read.
