CHAN 2018: Buhari Congratulates Eagles

President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday congratulated the home-based Super Eagles on their victory over Angola in the quarterfinal of the 2018 African Nations Championships CHAN in Morocco.

The coach Salisu Yusuf-led side came from behind to defeat Angola 2-1 in the quarter-final on Sunday night in Tangiers.

Late goals from Anthony Okpotu in the 91st minute and newcomer, Gabriel Okechukwu in the 109th minute, was enough to take the Eagles to the last four of the competition.

Reacting to the victory, Buhari in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, hailed the CHAN Eagles for their resilience and also wished them the best of luck in their upcoming match.

The statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari extends his congratulations to the Super Eagles on the spectacular 2-1 win against Angola in the CHAN quarterfinal match today (Sunday) in Morocco.

“President Buhari, who watched the match in his hotel room in Addis Ababa after a long day of meetings, wishes them the very best in their upcoming matches.”

Nigeria will now play Sudan in the semi-final.
