Confusion Over Ikoyi Registry As FG Dismisses Court Order

The Federal Government has dismissed claims in some section of the media that marriages conducted in the Ikoyi Marriage Registry were null and void owing to an order of Lagos High Court.

The Ministry of Interior in a press statement on Friday in Abuja said the matter in suit No: FHC/L/CS/1760/16 with judgment delivered on April 30, 2018 was struck out.

The statement signed by Bola Odugbesan, legal adviser states: “The Ministry of Interior has debunked the claims by Lagos State that it has secured judgment ordering the closure of Ikoyi Marriage Registry and thus restraining the Federal Government from conducting marriages.

“In a statement by ministry’s Legal Adviser, Bola Odugbesan, the judgment of Justice Chuka Chibuzor of the Federal High Court, Lagos, delivered on the 30th of April, 2018 never ordered the closure of the Ikoyi Marriage Registry or any Federal Marriage Registry. Indeed in the case filed Local Government in the Suit No: FHC/L/CS/1760/16 was struck out by the court”
