South-South Thrown Into Total Darkness Over Power Grid Collapse

Despite the current power crisis currently plaguing the nation, no fewer than four states in the South-South region have been thrown into total darkness after the collapse of the National Power Grid.

This was according to a statement signed by the head of corporate communications of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company PHED, Jonah Iboma, who revealed that Sunday’s collapse affected four states – Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.

Iboma, who said that the states are now receiving zero power from the national grid, assured affected citizens that the company will source for power from other alternative sources to reduce the impact of the collapse.

Iboma further mentioned that PHED would distribute whatever little power it could generate from alternative sources within this period on a pay-as-you-go basis.

PHED is the power distribution company responsible for all states in the South-south region.

While assuring citizens of government’s readiness to complete all ongoing projects in the next three years, the minister power, works and housing, Babatunde Fashola last week blamed the recent drop in power supply in the country to the recent attacks on gas pipelines in the Niger Delta region by militants.
