Court Grants Bail To Chinese Nationals Accused Of Bribing EFCC

The two Chinese nationals, Meng Wei Kun and Xui Kuoi, who were accused of offering a bribe of N100 million to the Sokoto zonal head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdullahi Lawal, have been granted bail.

They were accused by the EFCC of attempting to compromise ongoing investigations of a construction company, China Zhonghao Nig. Ltd.

The company was said to be handling contracts awarded by the Zamfara State Government in the sum of N50billion between 2012 to 2019.

The suspects are currently facing trial on charges of conspiracy and bribery.

The duo was granted bail by Justice Muhammad Saidu Sifawa, who also doubles as the Chief Judge of Sokoto State.

The bail term, according to the judgement, requires that the accused submit the sum of N5million each and two surety in like sum, one of which must be resident in Sokoto and have a landed property that has a certificate of occupancy.

International passport of the accused, the judgement added, should be submitted to the Chief Registrar of the court.

It also demanded they make an undertaking not to travel out of the country throughout the duration of the trial.
