Cross River was recording zero when other states in the country were registering new infections daily.

The state governor, Ben Ayade, had insisted the state was Covid-19 free.

But stakeholders in the state, including the Nigerian Medical Association, Calabar chapter, had contradicted the governor, claiming there were cases of the virus in the state.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) eventually confirmed and registered 5 cases in the state on june 6.

Currently the state has a total of 29 cases, with no recovery or death.

There are fears the figure may increase rapidly with more testing.

The NCDC has continuously advised members of the public to practice preventive behaviors, to reduce the risk of spreading COVID19 to the elderly and vulnerable in the society by observing physical distancing, wearing a face mask, and washing hands frequently.
