Dino Melaye’s Recall Dead On Arrival, Ekweremadu Declares

Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate has declared the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye from the Red Chamber `dead on arrival`.

This was just as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Tuesday, released a timetable and modalities for Melaye`s recall process.

Melaye, who represents Kogi West Senatorial District, had rallied the support of his colleagues at the upper legislative chamber to save him from the recall.

The lawmaker maintained that his recall is being sponsored by his state governor, Yahaya Bello.

According to Premium Times,Senator Melaye relied on Order 14 of the Senate Rule while pleading with his colleagues to keep him in the Senate.

While assuring Melaye of Senate`s full support,  Ekweremadu argued that the Constitution made a senator`s recall a cumbersome process.

“The Senate would also verify the legitimacy of the votes before a conclusion is made,” said Ekweremadu.
