Enugu Chapter Speaks On ‘Impeccable Principles’ Ahead Of Jan 10 Ohanaeze General Elections

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing, Enugu State chapter, Thursday, expressed confidence that the forthcoming Ohanaeze general elections would reflect the popular wishes of the Igbo.

The president of the group, Comrade Wenceslaus Ogbonnia, stated this in Enugu in an exclusive interview with THE WHISTLER. He also advised some interests bent on truncating the elections by setting parallel committees or churning out misleading information to place the interest of Ndigbo ahead of their selfish inclinations.

In his words, “The Ohanaeze Youth Wing, Enugu State chapter, is solidly behind the committee set up by the Ime-Obi Ohanaeze to conduct the elections. As always, the committee is made of people of impeccable principles. We expect transparent elections which will satisfy the consciences of all stakeholders. It is family elections because the goal is to get a new team to champion the welfare of Ndigbo.”

On his scorecard of the outgoing Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze, Comrade Ogbonnia said, “Ohanaeze under Nnia Nwodo is an exemplar. Chief Nwodo set standards which I advise incoming leaderships to toe. This is attested to by Chief Nwodo’s recent appointment as the national coordinator of the Southern and Middle-Belt Leaders’ Forum. It is a case of one good turn deserves another. He has been given a larger assignment, and we are sure that he would replicate what he did when he held sway as Ohanaeze president general there.”

The youth leader also commented on the administration of the president of Ohanaeze, Enugu State chapter, Chief Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia. According to him, “Chief Ogbonnia led the state chapter of Ohanaeze transparently, making it the best worldwide. Let me use this opportunity to declare our support for committees at various local governments saddled with elections into the state arm of Ohanaeze. The process of their emergence is transparent. We urge them to live above board and ensure credible elections into the state chapter of Ohanaeze to enable us to continue to enjoy the sublime leadership which Chief Ogbonnia champions.”

Our correspondent reports that Ohanaeze Ndigbo general elections would be held on Jan. 10. The position of the president general is zoned to Imo State.
