Europa League: United Face Celta, Ajax Draw Lyon

Manchester United has been drawn against Spanish side, Celta Vigo in the UEFA Europa League.

In the other last-four draw which took place in Nyon Switzerland on Friday, Dutch side Ajax will face Olympique Lyonnais of France.

The first legs will be played on May 4, with the return fixture the following week.

Jose Mourinho’s men defeated Anderlecht in extra-time on Thursday, winning 3-2 on aggregate.

Celta Vigo eliminated Genk 4-3 on over both legs after drawing 1-1 in the second leg in Belgium last night.

United have won only one of their last eight meetings against Spanish clubs, drawing three and losing four. That run includes the 3-1 defeat by Barcelona in the 2011 UEFA Champions League final.

Celta’s record against English clubs is W5 D0 L4, although they have lost their last three games – against Arsenal in the 2003/04 UEFA Champions League round of 16 and Newcastle in the 2006/07 UEFA Cup group stage.

Lyon are unbeaten in their last eight games against Eredivisie opponents winning four and drawing four, since a 2-0 loss at home to Ajax in the 2002 UEFA Champions League first group stage.

Ajax and Lyon’s four previous meetings all came in the UEFA Champions League group stage. The Dutch side won home (2-1) and away (2-0) in the first group stage in 2002/03, before two 0-0 draws in 2011/12.
