Ex-Anambra Commissioner Madubuko Condemns ‘Sycophants’ In Gov Obiano’s Govt

Dr Chris Madubuko, ex-Anambra State commissioner for diaspora affairs, indigenous artworks, culture and tourism, says his resignation letter from Governor Willie Obiano’s cabinet was ‘mischievously leaked to the media’ by sycophants in the administration, adding however that he resigned ‘in good faith’.

According to his Monday evening’s press release, “I have followed with interest media reports on my resignation as commissioner. The resignation notice was done in good faith, and was only posted to the EXCO WhatsApp platform after which l exited the platform. Unfortunately, some sycophants l spoke to about the resignation notice mischievously leaked the write-up to the media.

“I remain a proud member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance. All I seek is a more perfect performance by the administration for the benefit of Ndi Anambra in particular, and the Nigerian people at large. Anambra State must remain the Star of the East and the Light of the nation.”

Our correspondent reports that the media was awash with news of his resignation Monday morning, after Madubuko resigned his appointment. His letter, dated Dec 11, 2020, alleged that he resigned because of the corruption of the Obiano administration, and called on Obiano to ‘rise up and be in charge of his government’.

His resignation letter read in part, “In the cause of fighting corrupt, individuals holding the state revenue on the throat, all manner of frivolous petitions against me were written to the governor accusing me of several misdeeds. They accused me of particularly destablising our party, and advising the governor to remove me before l do more harm to the party.”

While asserting that he was a victim of corruption fighting back, Madubuko stated that, “It became clear that when you fight corruption, corruption fights back in several forms. I came down from Australia to help in developing our state. True to my belief, l worked tirelessly to actualise that dream. In working to meet the target, we set up mobile courts and jailed several revenue thieves, and significantly raised the state revenue. Those toes I stepped on are now in the prowl for my life. On three different occasions, l received baptism of fire by gunmen/assassins. I was equally attacked several times at the Onitsha Main Market by the agents of the revenue criminals.

“All these attempts were to stop me from exposing the people involved in siphoning the state’s revenues into their private pockets to the detriments of the Anambra citizens.”

The state commissioner for information, Mr C-Don Adinuba, confirmed that the state government had received Madubuko’s resignation letter, but refused to comment more.
