EXXON Mobil To Sack 2,880 Workers Annually

Exxon Mobil Corporation is planning to sack between 5 per cent and 10 per cent of its work force in the United States over the next three to five years.

The sack will focus on low performing workers and the action has begun, Bloomberg quoted a source familiar with the issue, adding that the affected workers have not been notified.

Exxon Mobil had announced last year that it will layoff over 14,000 staff worldwide by 2022.

The report said the plan for its US business is separate from the announcement made last year.

By the end of 2020, the company had  72,000 employees globally with the US having 40 per cent of its workforce.

The 40 per cent translates to 28,800 workers in the US alone.

With the figures, Exxon may likely sack between 1,440 to 2,880 workers who are performing poorly in its US business every year.

The spokesperson  for the company, Casey Norton said, “Our annual performance assessment process has been occurring over the last several months.

“Where employees are not contributing to their highest ability, they may need to participate in an improvement plan. This is an annual process which has been in place for many years, and it is meant to improve performance. This process is unrelated to workforce reduction plans.”

In 2020, the company saved $3bn from annual “structural cost reductions” and plans to continue through 2023.
