FG Giving Palliatives To 11 Million Poor Families – NASSCO

The National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO) has released a register of 13.69 million poor and vulnerable households and individuals, being used for the distribution of federal government palliatives.

NASSCO on April 6, had in a tweet said that the government was using the data from the register to distribute palliatives through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs (FMHDSD ), Disaster Management and Social Development.

According to the data released by NASSCO on Thursday, the country had registered 2, 644,495 poor and vulnerable households and 11,045,537 million poor and vulnerable individuals.

The data also revealed that Zamfara State has the highest number of poor and vulnerable families and individuals with a total of 291.6 thousand and 1.341 million respectively.

NASSCO explained that, “The National Social Register of Poor and Vulnerable Households is built through a rigorous, transparent community based targeting process undertaken by states and validated by NASSCO.”

The body had in a separate tweet said, “The National Social Register is available to be mined for COVID19 response measures targeting the poor & vulnerable. Here are some ways the FG through FMHDSD is using the register to provide palliatives,

“The cash transfer is currently paying 1 million poor and vulnerable households. We plan to rapidly increase this to 2 million in the next payment round in May.”
