Fulani Herdsmen Storm Abia, Destroy N15m Cassava Farm

Traditional ruler of Oriendu autonomous community in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, HRM Eze Philip Ajomiwe has raised the alarm that his cassava farm worth N15 million has been destroyed by Fulani Herdsmen and their over 300 cows.

Eze Ajomiwe, who is also the President of the South East zone of Cassava Farmers Association of Nigeria, said the herdsmen are responsible for the destruction of the farm which is located at Amakama area of Umuahia.

Describing the action as deliberate and a calculated attempt to impoverish farmers in the state, Eze Ajomiwe said, “This is nothing but an intentional destruction of farmlands by Fulani herdsmen.”

He explained that the National Cereal Research Institute gave him 10 hectares of land out of which he used five hect­ares to plant improved cassava variety called “TME419”.
