Ganduje Bans Popular Islamic Cleric From Preaching ‘Inciteful Messages’, Orders Closure Of Mosque

The Kano State Government has banned a popular Islamic Cleric, Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, from preaching “inciteful messages” in the state, and ordered the closure of his mosque to avoid sectarian violence.

Disclosing this while speaking with pressmen on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, shortly after the state executive council meeting, said the move was to forestall a breakdown of law and order.

Sheikh Kabara is a leader of the Qadiriyya Islamic sect. He is known for his fiery lectures which allegedly attacks other Muslim sects.

Garba said the state government had ordered the Police and other security agencies to enforce the closure and ensure strict compliance with the directives.

He said the decision was adopted at the state weekly executive council meeting.

He also announced that all seminaries run by the clergyman would be shut down pending investigation by security agencies.

Garba noted that all broadcast stations, both radio and television in the state, are also directed to stop the broadcast of Sheikh Kabara’s preaching or sermon with immediate effect.
